Vicki Carlyon
A Heretaunga Tramping Club trip to Arthur’s Pass while Vicki was still at school was the first of many tramps in the South Island. This tramp was the catalyst for moving to Christchurch, the perfect base for tramping while completing a Geography degree and teacher training. Teacher training opened doors worldwide and led to stints teaching in the Falkland Islands, Tower Hamlets and Nottingham. After living on and renovating a canal boat it was back to New Zealand for a couple of years with time to explore the Otago Peninsula and the West Coast with her young family.
Australia then became home for the next 16 years where Vicki completed a MSc in Librarianship and worked in libraries in Victoria and Western Australia.. She returned to Lyttelton in 2014 where she began revegetating 4 hectares of land with her husband while continuing to work in libraries. Her most recent role was as a Team Leader at Christchurch City Libraries with responsibility for leading an amazing team that selected, processed and catalogued digital and physical items.
She is now learning the art of trapping, planting a lot of trees and has more time to go tramping and cycling. Vicki is enjoying working with Bruce and Marcus to make a difference.
